A Fun Review of John Chow’s Blog
Posted on November 15, 2007 - Filed Under Blog Reviews

I have been planning to do a blog review for a while, but as I have been busy trying to build this blog, I haven’t had the time to do so. Today is the day that I will do my first blog review, and it will be of none other than the infamous John Chow Dot Com. For those of you who have been following my posts, you would have heard his name a hundred times, and here you will find out what I love and don’t love about his blog.
John Chow dot com is a blog that teaches bloggers how to make money online, and there is none more qualified to teach that than the man himself who has built a family blog into a business that generates over $23,000 a month from private ad sales, text link ads and affiliate marketing. For my review, I have decided to keep it short and sweet since he’s had countless reviews from fans all over the internet, me being one of them.
What I Love About John Chow Dot Com
1. John’s blog is about GIVING.
He continually gives valuable and practical information on how to make money online that incorporates all his personal experiences. He shares and recommends great money making channels and ideas with readers, is constantly running contests with great prizes, and even offers a free eBook that teaches you everything he learned in making his blog very successful at earning him money online. He gives out lots of link love, for with every review of his blog, he provides a link back to his site, and if you send him a great page, video, or tip, he will give a link credit back to you.
2. It is INSPIRING.
All of his articles are positive and inspiring because it gives you a million tools to help you succeed, and he tells you how to use them. He gives you a blow by blow account of his experience with AGLOCO, a recommended money making channel, and teaches you how to be an Uber Affiliate which rakes in income that is second only to his private ad sales. There are also news tip offs and advice he offers, all of which add up to give you one single message - You cannot fail at making money online if blogging is where your true passion is.
3. It is TRANSPARENT.
There are no secret bags of tricks, no mystery, around the tactics and strategies he employs and the advice he freely gives to readers and visitors. What he has learnt, he gladly shares, short of holding your hand and leading you to the gate. Even in a recent RSS competition with Shoemoney, he openly admits it as a collaborated, hyped contest to create buzz so as to boost subscriber counts to both blogs. The result of that competition gained him 4,691 new subscribers from the contest alone.
4. It is EVIL.
Evilness at its prime consisting of brilliant Internet Marketing tactics that are innovative and bold, yet perfectly aboveboard. It does not use any hard sell or under the belt tactics, but simply is the creative application of Internet Marketing Saviness that defies traditional or typical marketing tactics.
5. It is a COMMUNITY.
One of the great things I love about John Chow Dot Com is the buzz of comments from regular readers for each post. The articles are designed to invoke a response from readers, and it makes it fun for us to discuss, joke about and share our thoughts on them. The latest post (at this time of writing), Another Reason to Dump Google Adsense generated 101 comments alone. As you comment more often, you get to actually become friends with fellow commentators from which can result in rewarding blogger-to-blogger relationships.
6. It is FUN.
John is obviously someone who loves life, and injects a tone of fun and lightheartedness into all his posts. You can read about his dining out experiences, house hunting expeditions, and recently his visit to Blog World. After a treat he gave to 15 friends there, he ran a “How Much Did the Dinner Cost Me” contest on his blog where the winner who managed to guess the correct amount walked away with a book “American Hedge Fund”. That post gave readers an opportunity to have fun guessing the amount of the bill, laugh at each other, and generated a total of 151 comments and guesses. He also has a white surrender flag right on top of his blog that links to a hilarious conversation on the response of publishers who had to comply with Google policy of putting up only nofollow text link ads after John Chow Dot Com got a PR downgrade for selling Text Link Ads.
7. It is about SERIOUS Money Making Strategies.
From the art of link baiting and social networking for driving traffic to your site and list of numerous money making channels such as Text Link Ads, ReviewMe, Konteka, Agloco, to how to achieve more targeted Google ads for your page through keyword usage, you pretty much walk away with (almost) everything this guy knows in order to make some serious money on your blog.
8. It is EDUCATIONAL.
There is a great demo on his site on how you can burn extreme fat with great Photoshop skills.
What I Dislike About John Chow Dot Com
1. The Car Picture.
While all his fans are aware of his love for gorgeous fast cars, and the picture that he has on the blog is a great one - I never understood why it is up there at the top of his blog. It has always looked a little out of place to me, but as it does not interfere with the content or quality of the site, it is something I can live with. Maybe it’s just a female thing.
2. Following Up on Comments.
Going through the comments for each post can give me a headache. John sometimes puts up 3-4 articles a day, many of which can generate between 80 to over 100 comments. After following all the comments to his posts each day, I start to get double vision and words just blur into one another. Recently, it seems that John has dropped to putting up 1-2 posts a day which is great as I can only follow so comments without feeling exhausted at the end of the read.
3. Over The Head Posts.
These are very few and far between, but every once in a while, John talks like the A-list blogger that he is and leaves newbies like us biting the dust. This happens particularly on some technical posts or on industry news that only long-time bloggers would understand.
Well, there you have it! The 8 things I love about John Chow Dot Com and 3 things I dislike about it. Hopefully, this review would have earned me a link back from his blog. If your objective is to make money online, pay John Chow a visit and earn a link back from the 59th 41st most popular site on the Internet by writing a review on John Chow Dot Com.
