Surrendering to Google

As mentioned in a previous post, Google is cramping down on sites selling text links without <nofollow> tags by pushing down on their Page Rank. While some top bloggers are brushing off this slap on the wrist from Google, other blogs who still depend on the Google index for driving traffic to their site are grudgingly submitting to Google’s policies and guidelines.

One such site is Search Engine Guide. Their recent post takes a poke at Google’s tight fisted reign and describes the hilarious process of writing a letter of surrender to comply with Google policies. So if your blog is still relying on Google’s index, it pays to toe the line with text link ads until you have enough subscribers and healthy traffic to stop worrying about getting more slaps by Google.

How Shoemoney won the RSS Competition

In a recent RSS Competition between two Dot Com Moguls, John Chow and Shoemoney, John Chow was leading with over 13,000 subscribers while Shoemoney lagged behind. On the final day of the competition, Shoemoney rallied readers to support him as, quote “John Chow is kicking my ass” unquote. In a surprising turn of events, Shoemoney managed to collect 4,406 subscriptions on the final day to reach a total of 18,003 subscriptions over John’s 13,276 subscriptions. Even if the over 4,000 subscriptions had not come in on the final day, Shoemoney would have won by 324 subscriptions with a feed of 13,600. The question everyone is talking about is how Shoemoney managed to collect 4,406 subscriptions in one day.
