How To Capture a Screenshot on a Mac Computer

Posted on October 15, 2007 - Filed Under Tech Tips

I have recently switched to using the iMac desktop running on Intel chip, and am discovering new ways of performing tasks I used to be able to do on a PC computer. In the course of my work, i.e. working on websites, the Print Screen function is an indispensable one which I use to capture images of websites so that I can put them online, as well as screen shots of what I’m doing on my computer to produce instruction guides.

Well, while I was happily working on my new iMac and needed to capture a few website screenshots to insert into my blogroll, I was stumped that there was no “prnscr” button on the keyboard. I visually scanned the keyboard a couple of times meticulously to ensure that I’m not missing the usually discreetly placed button, but realised that it wasn’t on the Mac keyboard at all.

However, all is not lost, and a googled search informed me that the Print Screen function could be performed via Control+Command+Shift+3. While it is a tad clumsy, it can be configured under preferences. A nice touch added to the print screen function on the iMac is that it produces a camera shutter wave sound that lets you know that the image on my desktop has been captured.
